Intellectual property law is a law that deals with protection of the right of those who create original works. It covers many things, from original plays, novels, inventions to company identification marks.
The main purpose of such law is to encourage people to invent new things that might bring economic growth.

When people know their work is protected and that they have certain possibility to earn money through their inventions they are more likely to produce different things.
It is very positive for the society because new jobs are offered, new technologies are invented and it improves the world we live in.
There are three main mechanisms designed to protect intellectual property, those are patents, copyrights and trademarks.
Each of them protects certain creative works and they are regulated by the intellectual property law.

Trademarks are used to protect the expressive arts by giving the owner exclusive rights to reproduce the work and display it publicly.
This law prohibits others to gain financial or any other benefit from the work of the owner without his permission.

Patents protect any invention to be made, used by the others or sold for some period of time.In order to patent the creation it has to be approved for the patent by the US Patent and Trademark office.

Trademarks protect the name and identifying mark of certain product or company, the main reason for such action is to allow consumer distinguish different brands.
Actually, trademark is a form of intellectual property law that is used to identify the company on the market.

There are strict laws made to protect intellectual property, when these laws are violated it is important to hire an experienced lawyer.
Intellectual property lawyer helps people sue for the damages,if the case is successful person that violated the law has to pay certain amount of money.

Intellectual Property Law seeks to protect the intangible creations of the intellect. These creations include ideas, discoveries, inventions, symbols, music, art, and literary works. The intent is to allow the creators of an idea to exclusively control and profit from their idea. This protection is thought to encourage invention and innovation, and thus aid both the inventor and their community. Note that in order to have something to protect, the most intangible of these assets must still find expression in some tangible form, such as business processes, commercial methods, software or industrial or artistic designs.

There are four main categories of Intellectual Property Law. These are patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets. It is important to note that each of these categories has a distinct history, and category is handled uniquely within Intellectual Property Law.

Patents generally cover inventions and business processes, although there are types of discoveries and industrial design that can also be patented. A patent is a material asset that can be owned and sold. It is one of the oldest types of Intellectual Property Law, and is found in most counties of the world in some form.

A trademark is a phrase, word, or logo that uniquely distinguishes a commercial product or service. It takes time and capital to build positive public recognition of a trademark. Once protected, the creator has exclusive rights to use it. There has been some controversy over specific trademark battles when it comes to exclusive rights to names, words, or phrases.

A copyright covers the intellectual property of musical, literary, artistic, and audiovisual work as well as computer software. It is the protection of authorship. Copyright protection begins when the work is written down or recorded, and extends for life of the author plus fifty years.

Trade secrets cover the intellectual property of business processes, formulas, and techniques that increase profitability because they are not well known. Organizations have been known to steal or to reverse-engineer lucrative ideas from other companies. The trade secret branch of Intellectual Property Law seeks to confer protection against this form of theft.

In summary, Intellectual Property Law seeks to confer ownership, control, and protection to intangible assets. It takes time and capital to develop a valuable piece of Intellectual property. If protected, the property can enhance the profitability of the creator. This profitability will in turn enhance the community at large. Thus, Intellectual Property Law benefits both the individual and their society.

Intellectual property refers to property that is created via the intellect of a person. It encompasses writing, music, artistic works, inventions, discoveries and can include catchphrases or even single words if they can be shown to have been created solely by a particular person. Intellectual property law deals with the laws regarding intellectual property and covers things like trade secrets such as the secret recipe for Coke, copyrights such as those issued to authors of musical pieces, patents for innovative new designs, and trademarks like those printed on Barbie dolls and Leggos. Laws such as these date back to times of nobility where a monarch would allow a particular merchant to monopolize a particular segment of the market in the same way that they would grant a favor. From about the 1800s on laws focused on innovation and for this reason were issued less than they are issued today. In this, the Information Age, information can be disseminated in seconds to the entire world via the Internet and laws such as these protect creators, designers and innovators from situations where another person or company would begin to use the originator’s unique design to turn a profit and in so doing deprive the creator of the profits that they would have made if they had enjoyed exclusive use of the design. Not everyone agrees with the current intellectual property laws, however, arguing that it creates an intellectual monopoly and stifles the spreading of good ideas that will benefit all of society. The challenge today is to find a way to ensure innovation and continued creativity by protecting the rights of the creator to profit from his or her creation while still allowing all of society to develop and evolve in response to the creation and innovation of all the members of that society.
